A restored house in the old town of one of the most beautiful villages on the Andalusian coast and the most beautiful on the Tropical Coast. Salobreña is a villa of almost 13,000 inhabitants. You can enjoy its subtropical weather, tropical crops, and Mediterranean beaches, most black and with thick sand or pebbles. The subtropical climate is the consequence of being protected by the high Sierra Nevada mountains (the highest peaks in Iberia) from the north cold wind.
Restoring a house from scratch
Amandava: the idea
This plan that began with a dream of change. We wanted to understand life from a different perspective. Restoring an old house in Salobreña, in the old town, seemed like a first step towards that change.
We wanted to design a place where things happen more slowly, where there is always time to stop and look around. Stop and listen, smell, look. Listen to the sound of the water, smell the orange trees, and look at the most beautiful square in the old town of Salobreña: la Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

Amandava: the project
The project was restoring a house from around the 16th-century in Salobreña and give it life again. We decided to maintain its essence and, at the same time, turning it into a more modern space. Possibly, the most challenging thing was deciding who we were talking to and who we weren’t.
Giving up is never easy. But when we understood what the house was telling us, it took us by the hand to choose the number of rooms, the sizes, the design of the spaces, and how we wanted the people to feel in the house. That is how this beautiful house in the main square of the old town of Salobreña became Amandava.

Amandava: the execution
Recovering a 16th-century building is a process that takes time, from design to calculation of structures, licenses, and works itself. Amandava in Salobreña was developed with the help of the Granada architecture studio of Luis Martín (a lover of Salobreña). It has gone through all the necessary stages in the rebuilding to last another 500 years, or more.

Amandava: the details
The layout, the work, and the structural improvements were essential in the design of Amandava, but searching for sensations, and those details that together create a personality have not been less relevant.
Each corner has its history, and Amandava is the sum of all the little details. The intention behind this is to create a pleasant environment for the senses.
